Το γεγονός

Ο εκκεντρικός Jean Paul Gaultier «ντύνει» τη Χιονάτη σε μια χορογραφία της Angelin Preljocaj και σε μια εκτέλεση 26 χορευτών υπό τους ήχους συμφωνιών του Mahler και σκηνικής εμπνεύσεως Thierry Leproust.
Η χορευτική εταιρεία Ballet Preljocaj θα χορέψει σε Γαλλία, ΗΠΑ, Ελβετία, Ισπανία, Ιταλία και Γερμανία μέχρι και τον Ιούλιο του 2009.

Το ιστορικο & οι επιρροές

Δεν είναι η πρώτη φορά που ο Gaultier σχεδιάζει ρούχα για χορευτικές παραστάσεις. Έχει στο ενεργητικό του 11χρονη (1983-1994) συνεργασία με τη χορογράφο Régine Chopinot, για την οποία έχει ράψει ρούχα για 18 μπαλέτα της. Και φυσικά ποιος δε θυμάται τους κωνικούς στηθόδεσμους της Madonna.

Σύμφωνα με τον ίδιο το σχεδιαστή «τα ρούχα πάνω στις κρεμάστρες είναι ‘νεκρά’. Μόνο όταν κάποιος τα φοράει αποκτούν ζωή». Μέσω των συνεργασιών του με χορογράφους βρίσκει τρόπους να δώσει ακόμα περισσότερη ζωή στα ρούχα, «Οι χορευτές έχουν μια πολύ ιδιαίτερη σχέση με τα ρούχα. Έχουν τον τρόπο να τα επαναπροσδιορίζουν και να τους δίνουν άλλη διάσταση» σχολιάζει ο Gaultier ως ευφάνταστος και ιδιόρρυθμος σχεδιαστής που επηρεάζεται και εμπνέεται άμεσα από την αυτοσχεδιαστική τέχνη του χορού δημιουργώντας ρούχα δύσκολα να φορεθούν μεν, ανεπανάληπτα δε.

S/S ’09 inspired

Αυτή η δυναμική των χορευτών πάνω στα ρούχα ενέπνευσε και τον σχεδιαστή για την συλλογή του S/S ‘09 στην οποία τα ρούχα έχουν πολλαπλές χρήσεις ανάλογα το δέσιμο και τη χρήση που θέλεις να τους κάνεις. Στόχος του Gaultier ήταν η ανάδειξη της κίνησης, χορευτικής και μη, μέσα από τα ρούχα.

Τα ρούχα της καλοκαιρινής συλλογής είναι ζέρσεϊ φορέματα που καταλήγουν σε κορμάκια χορού με κάπες. Ρούχα με τη δυνατότητα της «μεταμόρφωσης» έχουμε δει και σε άλλους σχεδιαστές και πάντα μας ενθουσιάζει η σχεδιαστική συνεισφορά που μπορούμε εμείς οι ίδιες να έχουμε πάνω στο ρούχο.

Dance & Fashion show

Αποτέλεσμα όλων αυτών των συνεργασιών και του πετυχημένου – εν γένει έστω -  συνδυασμού χορού και μόδας το S/S ’09 show του σχεδιαστή στο Παρίσι, ξεκίνησε με performance μοντέρνου χορού από τρεις χορευτές. Τα κοστούμια των χορευτών δεν ανήκαν στη συλλογή που παρουσιάστηκε αλλά το show των χορευτών πρόδιδε την έμπνευση του σχεδιαστή για την εν λόγω συλλογή.

Τους τρεις χορευτές διαδέχτηκε, στο χορό, το μοντέλο – πρώην χορεύτρια – Coco Rocha, της οποίας το χορευτικό ταλέντο έχει ξαναχρησιμοποιήσει σε παλαιότερο show ο Gaultier, με ένα φούξια φόρεμα το οποίο στη συνέχεια μεταμορφώθηκε σε κορμάκι χορού, στο πνεύμα της πολλαπλής χρήσης των ρούχων που αναφέρεται παραπάνω.

The fact

The eccentric Jean Paul Gaultier designs costumes for “Snow White”. A choreogaphy by Angelin Preljocaj, performed by 26 dancers to Mahler’s music symphonies and a set designed by Thierry Leproust.
The dance company “Ballet Preljocaj” will dance in France, USA, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Germany till the end of July 2009.

The background & influences

This is not the first time that Gaultier designs clothes for dancers. He has collaborated with  Régine Chopinot, the choreographer, for 11 years in the past(1983-1994), during which he had sewed costumes for –more or less- 18 ballets choreographed by Chopinot. After all who doesn’t remember Madonnas cone bra.

According to the designer ”clothes on a hanger are simply still lives. It’s only when someone wears them that they come alive”. Through his collaborations with choreographers, Gaultier discovers ways to vitalize to the maximum the clothes. “Dancers have a very interesting relationship with clothes…They have a way of appropriating them and giving them a different dimension” says Gaultier as one of the most imaginative and “weird” designer, who is inspired and directly influenced by the improvising art of dance, creating clothes “difficult” to wear, hard to resist.

S / S’09 inspired

The dancer’s power on the clothes was the designer’s main inspiration for the collection of S/S’09 in which the clothes have multiple uses depending on how you tie the garment around yourself and how you want to use it. Gaultier’s aim was to emphasize on the movement, dance-move and not on the clothing.

The spring/summer collection includes a jersey dresses that can be “transformed” to dance leotards. Clothes with the “ability” to be transformed is something we’ve seen before and always excites us for having the chance to re-design the garment ourselves, and with no failure, since the foundation of it is a definite success..

Dance & Fashion show

Result of all these successfull partnerships – at least most of the times – is a combination of dance and fashion at the S/S ’09 Gaultier show in Paris, which began with modern dance performance by a trio of dancers. The costumes of the dancers were not a part of the collection but the  dancer’s show allowed us to understand the designers inspiration.

The model and former dancer – Coco Rocha succeeded the three dancers. Rocha showed up with a fuchsia dress which then transformed into a dance leotard, in the spirit of multiple use of the clothes mentioned above.
