Μήνυση στην Abercrombie από εργαζόμενηEmployee sues Abercrombie & Fitch

Μία παράξενη μήνυση δέχτηκε η γνωστή αμερικανική εταιρεία νεανικών ρούχων Abercrombie & Fitch, από μία 22χρονη, που εργαζόταν στο κεντρικό κατάστημα του Λονδίνου. Η φοιτήτρια νομικής, Ρίαμ Ντιν, ζητά αποζημίωση αξίας 20.000 λιρών (23.500 ευρώ) επειδή αναγκάστηκε να εργάζεται στην αποθήκη του υποκαταστήματος λόγω αναπηρίας, που είχε εκ γενετής εξαιτίας της οποίας είναι αναγκασμένη να φορά προσθετικό άκρο στο αριστερό της χέρι. Σύμφωνα με την ίδια, όταν πέρασε από συνέντευξη δε σκέφτηκε να το αναφέρει και όταν προσελήφθη πήρε ειδική άδεια να φορά μακριά μανίκια για να καλύπτει το προσθετικό άκρο.

Όμως, μετά από λίγες ημέρες, την ενημέρωσαν ότι η εμφάνισή της δεν συνάδει με τους κανόνες εμφάνισης του καταστήματος, οι οποίοι είναι καταγεγραμμένοι σε ένα βιβλιαράκι και ορίζουν την εμφάνιση των υπαλλήλων από την κορυφή έως τα νύχια. Έτσι, μετακινήθηκε στην αποθήκη όπου της είπαν ότι θα εργάζεται μέχρι την άφιξη της χειμερινής στολής των υπαλλήλων. Από την πλευρά της, η εταιρεία λέει ότι οι ισχυρισμοί της κοπέλας είναι ψευδής και ότι η Abercrombie & Fitch έχει μία ιδιαίτερα αυστηρή πολιτική κατά των διακρίσεων και φροντίζει ώστε όλοι της οι υπάλληλοι να χαίρουν ίσης μεταχείρισης. Η υπόθεση θα εξεταστεί από ειδική επιτροπή.

Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι το συγκεκριμένο κατάστημα, που βρίσκεται στη διεύθυνση με τη «διπλή» ονομασία Burlington Gardens 7 ή Savile Row 42, είναι ένα πανέμορφο παλαιό κτήριο στην είσοδο του οποίου υποδέχονται τους πελάτες καλλίγραμμα μοντέλα, οι οποίοι φοράνε μόνο ένα τζιν παντελόνι και φωτογραφίζονται με τις πελάτισσες.

Riam Dean asks for a 22,000-pound-compensation (23,5000 euros) because she was forced to work in the store’s stockroom, due to a disability she was born with. Dean was born with her left forearm missing and she has been wearing a prosthetic limb since she was a baby. According to her, she did not think of mentioning it during the interview and when Abercrombie & Fitch hired her, she was given a permission to wear a long-sleeved garment to cover the prosthetic limb. But after a few days, she was informed that her appearance was not in accordance with the company’s Look Policy, that are written in a guidebook and dictate every single detail on the employees’ appearance. So, she was moved to the stockroom to work until the arrival of the winter uniforms.

On the other hand, Abercrombie & Fitch says what the girl claims is not true and that the company has a strict anti-discrimination policy making sure that all employees are treated equally. The case will be examined by an Employment Tribunal.

It is worth mentioning that the London A&F store, located on the “double-named” address 7 Burlington Gardens or 42 Savile Row, is a wonderful old building at the entrance of which handsome models, wearing only a pair of jeans, welcome the customers and are photographed with them.
